The same thought occurred to me soon after City Market opened. Likely, one reason for so many Shoppers downtown was to try fill the gap by having no nearby grocery store for a number of years. Shopper's food selection is somewhat limited, but its better than nothing and you can easily walk to it.^Because, despite the negative talk about retail Downtown, there's plenty of demand in the area between residents, works and students to justify them keeping all those stores operating.
Also curious if Shopppers continues to maintain food at all their locations given Loblaws is now open. Or one of the Shoppers ultimately closes. I think what might keep them all open is pharmacy dispensing fees. But to me it seems Shoppers ECC West days would be numbered.
