Edmonton City Centre Mall (Renovations) | ?m | 2s | LaSalle Investment Management

Pedways O.K. -- they need a new plan or a revised plan for the rest that 1. opens up to 102nd Avenue, 2. adds residential towers to the equation and 3. gets some Atrium light into the retail area of both the former Bay space and the remainder of the mall. I don't understand the dithering on this.

That basement used to be ECC's west food court. A car dealership at ECC may be better suited for the first floor of the former Bay space, similar to how WEM's Toyota dealership took over 1 floor of the Sears space (the 2nd floor Sears is now The Brick).
I hadn't heard or thought of this idea before, but its definitely worth considering. The space is big enough and car dealerships exist in such downtown spaces in a number of other cities.

Although this would be something novel for Edmonton, where the past trend is car dealerships moving to suburban or remote locations, which must make buying a car very difficult for people who don't already have one.

I mostly liked their plan for the west space, but suspect the hope is with the post COVID recovery with downtown traffic, some retailer will take some or all of the space saving them all the cost and effort of such a major reno.

What the opening of Booster Juice isn’t riveting enough for you, I mean that’s real exciting news don’t you know? Nothing screams mall renovation like the opening of a Booster Juice!!

Booster juice moving makes sense, given last tenant on that entrance.

Also Dollarama moving to Shoppers location also would make sense.

I'm starting to wonder what plans they have cooking for that entrance once Booster Juice vacates their existing space.
With the Valley Line LRT now up and running, maybe it will be converted into a plaza or something like that?

^I think just as @archited voiced his frustration, there are no plans to do anything major with their asset in the near term. If they were actually planning something I'd be very surprised.

In addition to this, I believe there have been at least a half a dozen new business that have opened in the mall over the last year or so. But a lot remains to be done, so probably the landlord feels it is best to focus on continuing to fill the space rather than some another huge expensive and disruptive renovation right now. The last one by the previous owner with all the shuffling around from the basement to the third floor didn't really help much with a lot of money and energy wasted.
