I took some shots when I was out for a ride in the area about a year ago. I was surprised how much space there is (I guess it is an entire city block) and the sort of "blank canvas" opportunity that is there in that prime location. I was also taken aback by what a wasted opportunity it was with the GoA just sitting on the vacant buildings and unused land for how long now? Although not surprised I guess...it is Edmonton and who cares about Edmonton if you are the GoA!!!
Anyway some shots of what was there fall of 2021.

Had a friend's sister who worked in the Eric Cormack and it was pretty bad 15yrs ago.

The brown brick building could become a character apartment, maybe even below market or family co-op.

I’ve been wondering what the GoA was ever going to do with this site as it’s been at least ten years since they moved everyone out. I actually saw a construction crew working in the Eric Cornack building this summer but I’m guessing must have just been basic repairs.

Some misc projects in Fort Saskatchewan that I checked out today:

1. Eagle Builders is constructing a three-storey seniors' connecting care facility, with other locations being built in Edmonton, Medicine Hat, and Airdrie.

2. These townhouses were recently constructed, and the road next to them will soon be expanded to two lanes (since there's these, the seniors' facility, and the hospital using that road) which'll make the front feel less empty. There's already a multiuse path across the street, and a sidewalk will be added on the close side when the road is expanded.

3. Along the edge of Fort Station Mall are two townhouses: a 3-plex with six units, and a four-plex with eight units. In total, if this old listing is still accurate, there are seven one-bedroom units and seven three-bedroom units. Construction is now underway on another 3-plex and 4-plex to fill in the gaps between the two original buildings. I spoke with someone on the site. He said framing should wrap up in around three weeks, and the entire process from start to finish should last 6 or 7 months if all goes well; the owners want to move fast on this.

4. A couple streets down from these townhouses, some land is slated for a two-storey, eight-unit apartment.

Do we know if the lot will be able to be developed once the LRT is done? I know a small portion of it is being turned into an alley turn-around (😑) but I'm reeeeeeally hoping the remainder of the lot can be subdivided or something and a nice modern brick mid-rise built. I assume it'll be empty for 10-20 years though, so that'll be a nice continuation of Edmonton tradition.
