Edmonton's Population

Looks like Alberta was quite low in 2021 at only 9.9% of all immigrants to Canada.

Hopefully that can rebound in 2022 and beyond.

I think it is reasonable that Alberta could attract 10% of the immigrants which would be 100,000 over two years Edmonton could attract 30-40% of those meaning about 40,000 people. Could we accommodate that many people

Absolutely we could. We have some of the highest vacancy rates in the country. There are a like a billion projects that are on hold until demand catches up.

Bring your poor and huddled masses to Edmonton, we want more neighbors.

It is hard work to integrate new immigrants to the economy. Ontario is giving a benefit to all the other provinces through being that support net for the first few years and then once the individual is productive, tax paying member of society, more often than not they move to Alberta.

The population of Alberta is approximately 11.5% of Canada’s population so 9.9% of immigrants is in line.

The population of Alberta is approximately 11.5% of Canada’s population so 9.9% of immigrants is in line.

So the fed's target for the next three years is 1.4 million immigrants. If Alberta did get 11.5% of those and then Edmonton got 35% of those, that means 56,350 new Edmontonians not including migration from other provinces and natural growth. That's going to be a pretty big jump in 3 years.

Basically the size of St. Albert.

Indeed it is close when you look at it that way. I had mostly expected being the 4th largest province, with 2 of the top 6 biggest metros, AB would punch above it's weight. Looks like it has in some other years which is good.

If it's 60,000, I'd say the Edmonton Region had 15,000-20,000 of the Q4 growth.

Edmonton should do a municipal census in 2023.
