Winter City

From yesterday. Snow making has started at Snow Valley. Also I think these pods are new this year. There are five or six of them and it looks like they had material stacked nearby for more. A place to have a hot drink between runs?

Took in 124st's All is Bright last Saturday. A bit cool (damp cold) but tons of people and fairly well organized. With the epicentre at 108ave/124st there was a lot to do and take in but had hoped for something larger around 103ve as well. Supply of some food/drinks in the tents were consistent but if that's the biggest complaint I say job well done. It was so nice to see so many families out and about and shopping at local stores.

Congrats to everyone involved for putting it on.

City opening outdoor rinks for the season

December 3, 2021

Winter skating season has arrived.

The City of Edmonton opened outdoor rinks in Victoria Park and The Meadows Community Recreation Centre with more to open in the coming weeks so friends and families can spend time together outdoors this winter.

With rinks now open for the season, we remind everyone that some public health measures will be in place when you visit.

The Government of Alberta’s public health measures will be in place inside pavilions and washrooms. Their capacities are limited to 30 per cent of fire code. Masking and two metres physical distancing will be required at all times while inside these buildings.

Outdoor skate change areas will be available again this year. Visitors to outdoor skating surfaces are asked to come ready to skate, leave personal belongings at home and bring a mask to wear indoors.

While there are no capacity restrictions on ice surfaces, the provincial public health measures still require everyone to maintain two-metre physical distancing.

The following rinks are scheduled to open in the coming weeks depending on weather conditions:

  • Victoria Park Skating oval: Open
  • Victoria Park Iceway: Opens Saturday, December 4
  • The rink near Shelter 2 in William Hawrelak Park: Opens Saturday, December 4
  • Outdoor skating area at The Meadows Community Recreation Centre: Open
  • Jackie Parker Park rink: Monday, December 20
  • Castle Downs Park rink: Monday, December 20
  • Rundle Park outdoor rinks/Iceway: Mid-December
  • City Hall Plaza skating rink: Mid-December
  • William Hawrelak Park lake: Late December to early January

Please note, these are tentative opening dates. More information on when outdoor rinks and skating surfaces will reopen is available at edmonton.ca. You can also sign up to receive notifications as rinks open for the winter. More information on COVID-19 public health measures is available at edmonton.ca/COVID19.
