It is. As I mentioned previously, that rounded building was supposed to be the City's contribution to the project in the form of a new hotel. At the time Canada Place was being designed the City was still trying to figure out just what they were going to do with the old Alberta Hotel and as part of that proposal they were thinking of incorporating it into a new build. The City struggled to find a hotelier to build and operate such a building and that part of the project fell to the wayside. That was when it was decided to disassemble the Alberta Hotel in hopes that if the hotel was ever built it could be reused — obviously, that never happened and the bricks for it languished for twenty some years. That's also why that park on Jasper exists between 9888, Sunlife Place and Canada Place; it was intended to always have something built upon it and (if I'm remembering correctly) it maintained a legacy DC2 or somesuch zoning on it instead of it being an official park.Hello everyone. In the second last pic, there is a section that is jutting out of the unbuilt building with the round corner. Would that have been the Alberta Hotel?
"The momentum [downtown] must be maintained" said 1984. Then 1990 happened. ?Here's a tiny rendering of it from the December 11th, 1984 issue of the Journal.
