The Edmonton Elks - CFL

Couple Thursday home games and a Friday but mostly weekends. Unfortunately it could be a horrific year for attendance at least early on. If the team comes out of the gate well then you never know.

  • The existing agreement between the city and the Edmonton Elks for the use of Commonwealth Stadium expires on March 31. A new five-year agreement, covering a base licence fee, advertising, concession, and ticket surcharge revenue, could net the City of Edmonton about $5 million. The Elks have requested a licence fee waiver for 2023 and 2024 “in consideration of the team’s post pandemic recovery strategies and financial position of the football team.”-Taproot

Have to chuckle at this:

'Among the plans for 2023, the Elks are looking to partner with community bike organizations to encourage fans to cycle to games, they are working with the city to create more events at the stadium, and on a new merchandising agreement for non-Elks events to increase city revenue.'

Why is that funny? It is very convenient to get to games by bike considering the LRT shared use path is adjacent to the stadium site.

Options are good, but it caught me off guard given the severity of the rest of the article given their very significant on-field issues, lingering front of house cleanup, 18mil loss, not paying fees, not covering their share of LRT costs etc.

The house is burning, but let's water the lawn feel.

That's all.

Any word on ticket-pick up by new fans this year? I am curious to see if they will be able to draw over 20,000 this year given everything.
