SkyriseEdmonton (Site & Forum Discussions and Issues)

I've been recovering well, so I think I'll be ready to get some photo updates rolling again in the new year.

Bought myself a Boxing Day treat this year, too; a lighter, more portable mirrorless camera with zoom lenses (I've always stuck to primes with my Canon), for easier construction photo walks:

For comparison to what I've been lugging around all this time (though usually the Canon has an even bigger lens attached):

Sadly, one of the other reasons I got this is because some of my Canon equipment was damaged in the collision. My insurance should cover it, but I shouldn't use it while my claim goes through, and also this little guy will be easier to protect in a secondary case for added protection during my commutes.

Glad to see you back in the saddle @Daveography -- your input to the Edmonton construction scene is invaluable! By the way, on Christmas Day, when I had some time on my hands, I counted up the projects under "Buildings" and I came to a total of 98 projects completed, under construction, planned or on hold. I noticed that the counter only delineates 90 -- is there a reason for the discrepancy?

Some of the threads don't have database pages (perhaps due to insufficient information), so they wouldn't be counted under the total.

@Daveography I've been wanting to jump into some photography for a while - would you recommend the Sony A6000 by chance? The kit lens is kind of garbage, but c'est la vie.

Yeah, that's a good lens. Seems to be a lot of good condition A6000's with the kit lens around for sale. Found this https://www.mcbaincamera.com/productdetail.php?mcbain_id=0231531 for $1000. I like it a bit more size wise and weight versus the 18-105mm.

Unfortunately, I need to sell my desktop computer before I can pick up any of this equipment. Haha.

@westcoastjos Usually shoot RAW since I run everything through Lightroom anyway and then export as JPG after processing.
Yeah, that was the route I wanted to go.

Since I've had time to consider lenses before buying, I've now become overwhelmed with looking at far too many lenses and have no idea what to get any more. Hahah. I'm pretty sure I know the body, but lenses are a bit more of a challenge now.
