It was probably just utility service or some weird zone before, now it will be maintained by parks operations is my guess. It was supposed to get some upgrades as part of the Centennial Plaza project.

'twill prevent the hotel from deciding "hey, this would be a good spot for a valet station shelter for our guests and their fine autos" -- the expense to rezone would be prohibitive so it will forever remain a clock tower for those who want to remember what time it was, what time it is, and what time it will be.

Awesome news, the Edmonton Bike Park in Queen Elizabeth Park has officially received their grants from the province (assuming the formality of the budget passing, anyway). They hope to begin construction this summer and be ready for spring 2026.

I have mixed feelings about this one, given what has already been developed around it, the park space is awkward and very limited. However, it does help preserve the clock tower in place where it has been for a long time.

The gazebo in Grant Notley Park is surrounded by fencing. Looks like it might be getting some restoration work?

I sent an email in as the City was looking for engagement regarding their Naturalization Program. I put in a good word for the Trembling Aspen and encouraged more planting of this native tree.
Turns out they are planning to plant 70,000 aspen on the north side this year and and equal number on the south side next year.
Just some positive news on this Earth Day.

Does anyone know why Oliver Pool is closed for the season? Is it going through upgrades? Or closed due to valley line construction?

I really wish there was a law prohibiting chain link fencing in non-industrial settings. It adds absolutely nothing to the streetscape. The new dog park on the corner of 111 St and Argyle has done it marginally better. This should not be happening on Whyte of all places. Yuck.
