General Food & Dining Thread

Aaron Paquette makes a key point (and one of the reasons residential development has struggled along there, IMO)

But Paquette added part of the problem is getting Edmontonians traveling along Fort Road to actually stop.

“What we’re taking a look at here is, what is this road supposed to be beside the transit hotel? Is it supposed to be a freeway? Is it supposed to be a place for people to slow down take a look at things? Get out and shop? That’s the identity that’s a little bit more required I think here,” said Paquette.

While I dont doubt any of thats not true, kind of feel that every 2 months that place puts out a call for help because of whatever rotating reason.

At some point there needs to be acceptance that the place for whatever factors you wanna say, isn't going to work.

It was designed way too wide and uninviting, not to mention widening the road also got rid of a bunch of businesses that contributed to the area. Much of the development is social housing that won't contribute to their customer base. I don't see much changing anytime soon. Transit Hotel is a destination, hope people support it.

^This.
Any chance this street had of being any sort of a walkable main street went out the window when they demolished that side of the street. Fort Road is main thoroughfare now, a byproduct of it being connected to Manning Drive, which is a wannabe freeway (that might actually be one....eventually). No need to think of this area as a place for people to wanna stop and shop. It's never going to be that again. Fill in Station Pointe with whatever they can and move on

The old Vons on Gateway

The Sabor Group continues its expansion downtown, with the opening of The Atrium in the summer and Roca by Sabor, forthcoming in 2026.

I had no idea the two guys behind the Sabor Group worked at Bones. My co-workers and I had lunch at Bones a few times during the early 90s.
