Some notes from a walk through Strathcona, Garneau, and Wihkwentowin:

• Marrakesh Tajeen and Crave N Bites on Whyte both look to be closing—Marrakesh Tajeen has 'for lease' signs in the window. I'd been to Crave N Bites twice when I was staying in Queen Alex—seemed like a cheap but unremarkable late night spot. I'm a bit sad I never went to Marrakesh Tajeen.
• A Canadian Pies pizza and donair shop (same as on 104th St, presumably) is now open underneath the Buckingham (if I remember correctly)
• Tang Bistro has a sign on their door saying that they're under renovations until March
• Villa Bistro across from LeMarchand Mansion seems to have been replaced by a place called Verve.

Yes they do. However, the Downtown Dining Week menus now indicate which places take the gift card.

Japanese Village near the ICE District is finally open!

I checked out the Kin space this weekend and was very impressed. I really like what they've done with the space -- it's a much better vibe than what Shojo had -- and the cocktails were superb. Hopefully it finds more success than the prior efforts in Ben Staley's past.

Their hours are a little strange, not open for the lunch crowd, but very excited to see them downtown none the less.

New chain to Edmonton (Dave's Hot Chicken) filling in the old 711 space on 109 & 102 ave. Really great to see that CRU filled.

Unless I'm mistaken, this will be the only fast food franchise to open its first location in the CBD instead of a suburban location.

I feel like this area of the CBD is overlooked. It's got vehicle traffic visibility and Norquest and MacEwan right nearby for an easy customer base. Here's hoping to more franchises opening up in the area!

Great addition to DT! I’ve ate there in Toronto and it’s not bad. Way better than Chik Fil A.

The only downside is Dave's Hot Chicken is an American franchise.
Not saying it's worth a try, however there is always Rob's Famous Fried Chicken east of downtown.
