Edmonton Oilers

The bloodbath has begun as of this morning.
Eakins gone from the Ducks.
Pens are cleaning house with Burke and Hextall fired.
MacT fired as assistant coach with the Blues.
I wonder if the Flames will fire Sutter, especially those Nadri remarks from a few weeks ago.
When you have your star players that unhappy with the coach, who do you put first?

The Penguins' downhill slide began when they allowed Fleury to be exposed to the VGK.
Bringing in the virtual face of their most hated rival (the Flyers) to run their club is the second dumbest thing they could possibly have done. Think of the Oilers hiring Theoren Fleury as GM.

You go with the star players, especially when your coach is as stale-dated as Darryl Sutter. The Flames tossed Terry Crisp overboard despite multiple seasons either first overall in the league or close, and one Stanley Cup win, because he had been feuding with multiple players.

crisp coached the team to 54 wins in ’89 and the flames fired him in ‘90. they didn’t even come close to that again until winning 50 in 2019 and again in 2022.

two years after the firing, those star players dropped to 31 wins and three years after that to 24. which is the right choice between firing the coach and trading the players depends on both the coach and the players involved. my guess is the flames might still regret not choosing crisp.

Amazing PP stats this year for the Oilers.

Remember in the 80s when the NHL made a rule change on coincidental minor penalties as it used to mean teams would play 4 on 4? But the Oilers were so dominant at 4 on 4, that moving forward, on coincidentals teams would stay 5 on 5 as they do now.

That's one area the Oilers didn't have as much success as previous years - 3 on 3 in OT.

The big gap between games 5 and 6 are due to both the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers of the NBA being in the playoffs this year. They along with the Kings use the same arena, could also mean some bad ice for our games in LA.

If things go well that potential gap won’t mean anything but there might be a gap between the next series. :)
