Edmonton International Airport (EIA/YEG)

A ton of chatter over on the SSP Edmonton - both Minneapolis and LAX >>> 2 X daily next year on WS.......

Edit: Minny >> 12 weekly. LAX >> 9 weekly next summer.
Looks like Vegas also moves to 12x+ weekly. Looks like it was previously just 7x weekly (1 daily). There may be other changes.

What is SSP Edmonton?

Minny basically 2X daily should allow for a ton of connections throughout the US! Basically Westjet/Delta's answer to AC/United Denver.

New data out this morning from Statistics Canada on the number of passengers screened at Canadian airports.
In November 2022, Halifax Stanfield International Airport was the first of Canada's eight largest airports to record a month in which the number of screened passengers exceeded the pre-pandemic level. Screened passenger counts at both Edmonton International and Winnipeg Richardson International have also returned to pre-pandemic levels in recent months.
Calgary International Airport and Montréal-Trudeau International returned to 2019 traffic levels in April 2023, and they have both since recorded the strongest recoveries from pre-pandemic levels. Indeed, Calgary International's almost 600,000 passengers screened in October 2023 is a 16.5% increase from the same month in 2019. Vancouver International recorded a screened passenger count above the pre-pandemic level in October 2023 (+3.4%), after fully recovering for the first time in September (+0.1%).

They are also ordering 25 more jets. You would think they'll have to place at least some of their fleet in the west just given the total number of jets they've ordered.

Porter decided that they will be investing in Ottawa substantially as their eastern operations and maintenance base, not Toronto or Montreal.

It would be smart for YEG to get in front of Porter to be the western base and not Calgary or Vancouver given they have a substantial order that is still coming.

I think all three YEG YVR YYC will see new routes BUT some will be successful and others not so much and be cancelled. I doubt WS sit idly by if Porter to invest heavily at YYC. Porter might find much more success at YVR and YEG if Transat started to fly Pacific routes from YVR and to YEG.

Yes, they will already be up against Air Canada at YVR, so it would be wiser not to also get into a big battle with WestJet at the same time on the same routes.

Have people noticed some of the amazing deals you can get through Porter. I had a 208$ flight to Orlando via Ottawa.
