Anecdotal of course, but I already know a few people in my circle of family/friends who have cancelled their US plans this year and are planning trips in Canada/abroad this year. I have a feeling the backlash won’t die down until the tarrifs threat is gone completely.

I can't help but wonder how many people are shifting their international travel plans to avoid connecting in the USA.

I feel the recent change in the value of the $ CDN vs. the $ USD is also a big part of this trend, as this makes traveling to the US more expensive and elsewhere more attractive.

The political situation reinforces and supports these decisions and may not becoming an important factor too.

Curious if these tariff talks will impact future schedule planning and an expected pullback of US flights?

No, I don’t think it will have a big effect on Toronto YYZ, Vancouver YVR & Montreal YUL Canada’s 3 busiest airports✅.

Although I could see (some US🇺🇸 flight ✈️ cuts) quietly by airlines at medium & smaller sized airports in Canada 🇨🇦 like : Calgary YYC , Edmonton YEG , Winnipeg YWG, Ottawa YOW or Halifax YHZ . Where a few cancellations here & there & with consolidation of some Canada -US flights, at these airports✅.

(*If*) Canada - US passengers demand drop as we get closer to the (Summer 2025) due to the Trade War /Tariffs ,
I could see WS WestJet maybe 🤔 deciding to cut the *new* Calgary YYC - Anchorage ANC 2x weekly route for this Summer & push it back to (S26). As it will free up a WS Boeing 737 scheduled for 2x weekly to ANC to be used on a higher demand route.

So when did WS scrap YEG-YUL flights until late April/Early May? And why???

Because it’s Winter ❄️ season operations still and every Canada 🇨🇦 winter so far, currently WestJet can only make its Calgary YYC- Montreal YUL - YYC route work from Western Canada & it operates 6x weekly for the Winter usually✅. The YYC- YUL route is 6x weekly until April 25. From April 27 it’s going up to 2x daily for (S25).

WestJet’s Edmonton YEG, Winnipeg YWG and Vancouver YVR to YUL routes. resume end of April/ May for (S25) .

WS YWG-YUL is currently operating (daily Monday to Friday, increasing to 6 to 7 weekly for the summer), its a year-round route. WS YEG-YUL was also supposed to be a year-round route as well, but that has changed. They had YEG-YUL flights operating last month.

Yes correction, WS WestJet Winnipeg YWG- YUL- YWG is year round this winter season, in the past it wasn’t , (if I’m not mistaken).

As for WS YEG - YUL - YEG is temporarily cancelled/suspended for few months due to not demand I guess. As Air Canada currently has a stronghold on YEG -YUL nonstop flights ✈️ year round & AC also have a stronghold on Calgary YYC - YUL route too.

Also plus WestJet doesn’t do as well in Quebec, and they’re not the only 1️⃣, as Flair & Porter has their struggles in Quebec as well✅.

The only 2 Airlines that does very well year round on nonstop flights in Quebec is Air Canada and Air Transat✅.

Purely anecdotal as well, but I'm aware of several folks who have moved vacations out of the USA.
Talking with the hotel I usually sty at in Victoria. They have noticed an uptick in reservations and enquiries. But I also have friends that have canceled trips south now as well. Also have had conversations with friends locally that have asked for recommendations for Canadian Northern Trips.

A couple of months ago. My daughter had booked a trip to YUL then they cancelled it and rerouted her through every airport imaginable. She was pissed so she cancelled and booked through Porter

Interesting I’m guessing that happened in (S24), as currently Porter Edmonton YEG - Montreal YUL is temporarily suspended along with WestJet on this route and Porter resumes it May 2 for (S25).

Although YEG - YUL - YEG on Air Canada 🇨🇦 still operates , as it’s 2x daily this Winter ❄️ season✅.
