Completely 100% agree with an Oilers store in the plaza. There's enough places within Rogers Place to buy Oilers swag but we need one outside of Rogers Place security and preferably outside of Ford Hall. I thought the old Kingsway location was relocating to the ICE District but I haven't heard anything since. Maybe this new Ice District Authentics will be it?

They are doing just that, thankfully! I believe in a re-worked AC-101 space (on 104 Ave / 103 St corner, with adding a Zamboni room for the plaza rink), but someone may know better on the exact location.

Will be called "Ice District Authentics" and I know I'm intrigued to see it. I really hope it's a big store, and doesn't just sell Oilers stuff, but embrace Edmonton and sell Elks, FC Edmonton, Riverhawks, etc. too.

That is a really good idea, not just Oilers, but other Edmonton teams too. Especially for people who come from out of town, they could go there before the game and it would not be so rushed or busy for them.

These two spaces will be absolutely key to the vibrancy and feel of the area. An Earl's would be nice along with something like a dedicated sports bar.

Thanks for the maps. Even though I have went through the area a number of times, I didn't know exactly which of the remaining spaces were taken or not.

This helps give us a better idea of what we are dealing with here. I think you are right, the circled spaces are the more crucial ones to set the tone for the area.

Also, I have noticed Rexall has temporarily closed its store for quite some time now . I wonder if that means this space could become something else, or if they will eventually reopen.

Yes! Happy to hear there will be some retail that doesn't just sell food, booze, prescription drugs or RRSPs!

I'd like it if this Ice District Authentics had some merchandise that could only be purchased at this location vs.team gear from stores in Kingsway Mall, WEM or Sport Chek. If it was big enough, it would be nice if they branched out into some sports equipment too. But this is a really positive development and can only help attract interest from other businesses hopefully.

Whats wrong with the Canadian Icehouse and Banquet? How many bars does Ice District need - it has a Joeys, bars at the JW and the Casino ... and something sweet will replace Mercer Tavern - then you have the bars in the Boardwalk area.

Agreed, partially. I would give my kingdom for a downtown Rec Room, which would fit nicely in this building.

It needs seats for 1000-2000 is what it needs and to be a destination for hotels on non-game nights.

I don't think a space for 2000 it is viable in the core or anywhere else in Edmonton. That would kill many smaller bars that host game nights. To lease that kind of space downtown and make $ will require it being full every night. Not happening. The only place would be Rogers Place using our paid for Winter Garden and rethink some of the other space and turn that into a going concern for playoffs and final. games - Oilers, Elks and other teams. The space is built - so operating costs would be much less and currently its wasted space. But why couldn't Ice District use is plaza to host events all the time within pop up beer gardens and large TV screens?
