Downtown

Hopes for Downtown 2025:

1. 3 new major residential projects start construction totalling 1000 residents.
2. 40 new beat officers Downtown including south of Jasper between 102-109st.
3. LRT station clean up and zero tolerance.
4. One major new tenant announced (20k+).
5. The park is ahead of schedule and opens in September as school starts and welcomes back thousands.

In addition to all of the above, I'll add the following:
1. announcement and start of a new exciting project on the old BMO site;
2. announcement and start of a complete re-do of the west side of CCM;
3. greater commitment by all parties (CoE, building owners, property managers, building tenants, residents and visitors to downtown) to an increased level of care and cleaning of all downtown, sidewalks, streets and infrastructure;
4. new, appropriate tenants (i.e. no banks, liquor or weed stores) for all currently vacant spaces in the ICE District;
5. an announcement and start of a new project on the Arlington site.
6. anything else that will add to the health and vibrancy of our downtown core.

In addition to the above, I'll also add the following to the downtown wish-list for 2025:
1. New office/residential/hotel development announced for the parking lot north of the MNP Tower
2. ICE District Phase 2 will be announced along with truckloads of cash from the provincial government
3. Dwayne's Home will finally be demolished, to be replaced by an exciting new infill development
4. Valley Line LRT construction on 102 Ave will finally commence
5. Manulife/CWB redevelopment will get underway, including new retail tenants
6. Exciting new tenants announced for ECC, including a pickleball facility
7. Chateau Lacombe parkade renovations completed and the wooden stairway south of the parkade reopened
8. Alt Hotel is announced
9. New HQs and start-ups announced for the downtown core that includes AI and hydrogen
10. At least one basketball court, preferably on the SW corner of 104 St and 103 Ave

In addition to all of the above, I'll add the following:
1. announcement and start of a new exciting project on the old BMO site;

I truly hope we see #5 come true, but I won't hold my breath. What a disgrace that property is on the city, its council, and the owners.

Let's be BOLD here... an Earls is announced for the old Rexall space at ICE.

Seriously, it would make bank there.
Is that a "Barf" emoji after your post Ian? Or are you serious - there is in fact an Earls opening up in Ice?

Signs up at Canada Permanent for bar and home style studio.

ICE District already has the Banquet, Icehouse, Kindred, Braven, Match, Joey, MSSM, Boston Pizza, Guru, Delux, Subway and Tim Hortons. I'm not sure if an Earls or a Blowers & Grafton would really be needed. How about an A&W to replace the one that was at the Greyhound Terminal? Or how about a cafe like Square One, Deville, Blenz or The Colombian?

Blowers & Grafton or Earls may do well on 103 St. The Creperie and 7-11 spaces needs to be filled. Or there's the cafe/bar space for lease at the 103 St Centre.

Although there are still spots to be filled, I do agree there actually already is a fairly decent selection now. Still, I do think something like Earls would be a good addition and enhance the area whether in ICE District itself or nearby.
An A&W in a street front location, that doesn't close at 6 or 9 pm, and a nice local coffee place or two would be great also.
