Downtown

Very busy in Churchill and around Alex Decoteau over the weekend with the warm temps, fountains and Downtown Spark programming. Another week of programming to go including a block party on MacDonald Drive June 3 featuring William Prince!

Also, sidewalks are starting to be power washed. I saw a crew on 104 Street today.

Not just for Downtown, but a really neat new dashboard for the BIAs.

Data like never before: City launches new Business Improvement Area Dashboard
May 31, 2023

Today, the City of Edmonton launched a new interactive online tool to help businesses and Edmontonians learn more about the city’s Business Improvement Areas (BIAs) through detailed data.

In response to engagement work conducted with the BIAs last year, the City of Edmonton reworked and developed the new interactive dashboard to replace the previous static Economic Indicator Reports. This annual data has been collected in partnership with the BIA associations for years; however, the print-only format was not as user-friendly. The new dashboard provides detailed economic information about the 13 BIAs in Edmonton.

The data includes information such as total building permits in a year, commercial vacancy rates, assessment values of commercial properties and survey results for business owners and patrons. New to the data is Statistics Canada census information, including demographics on age, income, occupation and primary methods of travel.

Existing business owners can use this data to help plan for current needs and future growth, while new entrepreneurs can draw on this information to help determine where they might wish to establish new businesses.

This new dashboard enhances what was previously offered by including the additional census data, allowing some of the data to be updated in real time or more regularly to reflect emerging data needs and availability.

The BIA associations and their member businesses play a crucial role in supporting the vibrancy, economic vitality and appeal of many of the City’s main streets and key commercial areas. In partnership with each BIA association, the City measures and reports on a set of indicators annually to evaluate the overall economic well-being of Edmonton’s BIAs.

The reporting period for the Economic Indicators is January to December of each year. The dashboard contains data from 2017 to 2022.

Japanese Village is closed. Signs are finally down.

My understanding now that Fu's is relocating to the new 'Double Dragon' space, not keeping both.

Coffee Bureau is opening a second location on Jasper/123 St. Not sure exactly where.
