Downtown

It seems awfully hard to get the provinces attention on urban and downtown issues, unless it involves violence and social disorder.

We face a number of similar issues, so hopefully the mayor of Calgary will get through to the provincial government, for our sake too.

Don't know how many employees RBC has Downtown, asking them to come to the office 3-4 days a week.

It is not just RBC, I see more and more people around recently when I go through City Centre and elsewhere. Interestingly I saw around 35 people in the Stantec food court area yesterday, the one with seating but no actual food places yet.

With all the places that closed downtown during COVID, I think some businesses will eventually realize lots of customers are back and are being undeserved. I noticed the food place in Enterprise Square has reopened.

Although still waiting for that much anticipated new coffee place in Manulife to open.

^Ancidontally yes, would like to hear more numbers from the City or perhaps EDBA on how many are actually back.

Also noticed was busy in Commerce food court yesterday and Sunterra is back up with all it's offerings.

I suppose if they regularly go through these places as often as I do, which I sort of doubt, they could as easily count the same numbers too. Yes, Sunterra is back up which is good to see.

Anecdotally, perhaps in so far as maybe not as comprehensive, but probably more current than the information they are working with which might be weeks, months or even years old.

There are a couple of places that still need to open, such as the Rotten Ronnies in Commerce Place. The entrance between ECC and the HSBC building is still shut since early 2020. And I found out recently that you can walk from the lower floor of Enbridge Place to the Rice Howard Place food court but not the other way because the Enbridge doors are locked.

The McDonalds in Commerce Place is a strange one, it was closed very early in the pandemic and looks untouched since then, as if it may reopen tomorrow.

Most other food places around it stayed open or have reopened quite a while ago. Personally, I think someone put a curse on it when it took over that space from a very nice little local cafe/deli that was there before.

I recall this being somewhat controversial at the time. That spot could really use something better.

Both locations (Commerce and ECC) had considerable disorder issues to deal at the counter with and so I am curious if and when they reopen.

March 24, 2023

On Monday, March 27, 2023, Edmontonians will honour the service of Constable Travis Jordan and Constable Brett Ryan who were killed in the line of duty on March 16.

Edmontonians should expect delays to their commutes, whether driving, biking or taking transit, and are asked to leave additional time to arrive at their planned destination.

Edmonton Transit Service is offering free transit to anyone traveling to and from downtown for the procession and funeral. Commuters should be prepared for increased ridership, especially in Park and Ride locations.

I thought the one in City Centre is open and almost everything else still in the Commerce Place food area is open. So I think the issue is something else specific to it.

Sounds like the former Station on Jasper space may be leased
