Student Housing Accelerator

Any guesses about who is vying for a piece of the action... my guesses (and they are just that) include Maclab's site on the SE corner of 108th Street and 102nd Avenue; the Massey Ferguson site; Katz' site on 104th Street; multiple Westrich Pacific sites; Autograph's site on 106th Street -- those are kind of the obvious ones. Less obvious might be the former "North" site and the former "Bay" site (102nd Ave.) and maybe Gene Dub's land in the Quarters..

Don’t believe any Katz properties are in the mix, from what I’ve heard.

I'm curious in the ROI for total units that come from this program.

I get it's a different program, different dynamics and type of housing too, but this one conversion in Calgary cost a total of $83 million for a total of 204 units. I feel like grants/subsidies here go a much longer way here than in Calgary, or other cities.

Falcon II as well I'm pretty sure.

Interesting project, but wish the article wasn't so scant on details. The Feds & City of Calg subsidizing a for-profit developer's project to the tune of $377k per door is a bit bewildering, even on an 'affordable' housing project w/ on-site supports.

I thought the rules precluded any projects that had already been approved, that already had DPs, and were marketable in their own right. I'll have to go back and read the outline again.

So for anyone in the know on these funds, are there going to be any surprise projects that we'll hear come out of the woodwork when things are ready to be announced?
I wouldn't be shocked if the Massey Ferguson project came through with this. The Kelowna-based firm involved in it is a big local player in the student housing here and had several projects at UBCO. To be very honest, this is probably the one I am hoping for the most, as it would start injecting some life on 103 ave and would tie up the north end of the Warehouse district very well with McEwan University.
