Yes and this parking could also be used for those driving and going to whatever is developed at the Power Plant when baseball games are not on.

Not going to happen, period.

It's FAR too expensive with nowhere near a return, UNLESS subsidized by another group.

What I'd like to see is the lot north of the diamond have a floor of parking for new residential and a floor for public, visitor, loading, etc. that has a 'latecomer' fee associated with other sites in the area, versus each building having 15-30 stalls required.

City releases proposed fall budget adjustments

City Administration released its fall budget adjustment reports today, which recommend a number of changes to maintain the planned 6.4 per cent property tax increase for 2026. The adjustments will allow the City to address budget challenges and continue delivering the 70 services and over 200 construction projects in the 2023-2026 budget.

The reports also include proposed changes to the capital budget. The City is recommending a $98 million increase to advance several planned projects forward, including neighbourhood renewal work and fire stations, as well as some emerging work, including a roof replacement to preserve the historically protected Rossdale Power Plant and work to develop a new school site in Windermere. The increase represents less than one per cent of the $11 billion capital budget.
 
It is good that the city is spending the money needed to maintain the power plant building, but until some development moves ahead it will continue to be a sink for more and more city money to do so.

So the foot dragging on this needs to stop, not only for the benefit of the nearby community, the whole city but also for city taxpayers.
 
Tour the Rossdale Power Plant
January 21, 2026

Media are invited to join Avril McCalla, Project Lead, River Crossing, and David Johnston, Principal Heritage Planner, for a tour of the historic Rossdale Power Plant. The City seeks ideas/partnerships for adaptive reuse of the building and is accepting submissions until the end of April. Following the tour, media will have the opportunity to ask questions.

Date: Friday, January 23
Time: 11:30 a.m.
Location: Rossdale Power Plant, 10155 96 Ave. NW

Due to limited space, only two attendees per media outlet can be accommodated. Please RSVP to Matt Pretty at matt.pretty@edmonton.ca with the names of attendees from your outlet by 10 a.m. on January 23. Spaces are reserved on a first-come, first-served basis. Attendees will receive further instructions regarding parking and tour information upon registration.

NOTE: The Rossdale Power Plant is an active construction site. Attendees must bring their own personal protective equipment to participate in the tour, including closed-toe shoes, pants and hard hats. Please dress for the conditions as the space is minimally heated.

When I spend time in places like Montreal's Old Port, Winnipeg's Forks and Vancouver's Granville Island, there is signage promoting federal investments in these spaces as national historic sites everywhere.

This is the critical partnership that is missing. And fortunately, this site's location adjacent to key Indigenous and fur trading sites makes such a partnership viable. All that is missing is vision and provincial leadership that sees itself as Canadian.
 
I've had a couple of tours a number of years ago and there is SO MUCH potential here, but also a lot of creativity and partnerships needed. I'm touring it in March.

What does everyone envision here?
 
As I have opined before... World Indigenous Peoples Exposition (WInPEx)-- permanent, differently branded, unique to Edmonton, respectful of Indigenous contributions to society...
and loaded with "restaurants, cafes, farmers' markets, courtyard available for weddings etc." plus indigenous art, handcraft, entertainment and culture (broadly speaking).
I like the San Antonio reference -- both for the Pearl District and I would add the Arneson River Walk. Strong respect for Hispanic culture -- Edmonton could do the same with First Nations culture.

Gondola, then all the usual, just executed well. No need to reinvent the wheel. We know what works elsewhere. Let’s just do it well. Medium density neighborhood with destination style retail/F&B. Tie in to riverfront.

I would WANT something like Spokane’s retrofitted steam plant. However; all the machinery has been stripped from this site so it wont have the same affect. The site is also so massive idk how to make it economically viable so something like an Edmonton Museum combined with Native story telling or a Plains cree parliament… something to that level

The steamplant which houses a couple design/architecture businesses as well as a resto/lounge/event space.
