Municipal Politics

The city needs to stop passing laws it can not or will not enforce. This is making them look ridiculous

Caterina and a former PC candidate? With Cartmell possibly running too? Are they all trying to split the vote?

A taxpayer with the average priced home ($428,500) is expected to pay $9.72 per day in 2025 property taxes ($3,548 for the year).
From the graphic below, you can see where that $9.72 goes.

A City Manager with city operations experience, especially transit. Great choice!
Hmm. Was sort of hoping for an external hire of a more veteran leader. Don’t know Eddie though, I’m sure he’s awesome. Hopefully it goes great.

Just feels like bringing in some outsider knowledge of a city that’s more like 1.5-3mil in size would be helpful. Was Eddie a part of the electric bus mess?

Yes.

In Edmonton, Eddie introduced regional smart fare, Arc, and regional fare capping, pioneering these features in Canada. He oversaw the first network redesign in over two decades, implemented in 2021. Eddie also played a pivotal role in introducing 60 battery electric buses and establishing comprehensive in-depot long-range charging infrastructure.

In general I feel having more choice is good. When there is a strong incumbent, it tends to discourage others from running.

To be fair, ETS was blindsided by Proterra’s eventual situation.

ETS & Robar hasn’t allowed the situation to disrupt service.

Even when we do not agree, I have the great deal of respect for Mayor Sohi. On this one, there is a relatively simply way to resolve the impasse between his intent and his colleagues disagreement. Rather than committing his successors to the consequences of one or more members of council not complying with the independent council that set the salary, he could simply donate that same $3,000 to the city which would achieve the same end and provide him with a tax receipt from CRA for being the good guy here.
