Miscellaneous

I believe it is 138ave and 170st. The old Golden west site.

The AHS web site only give a vague location. Apparently for security reasons. The Alberta Infrastructure site sows a location along the Henday but the only site active and available is 30meters south.

Speaking of heritage renovations, this one is nearly completed.

The Yorath Residence, located in the River Valley near Sir Wilfred Laurier Park, was constructed in 1949 and was designed by hallmark modernist firm Rule, Wynn & Rule. Built for prominent businessman Dennis K. Yorath, it remained in the family until the passing of his widow in 1991. Sold to the City the following year, it sat largely abandoned for nearly two decades and was practically unnoticeable due to unkempt vegetation. Designated a Municipal Historic Resource on December 15, 2015, it has been slowly restored by the City over the last two years. It is now used as rentable event space.

They were planning on restroring the gardens which were quite nice. I have not been in since Mrs Y died but what i can see from the winows looks great. Since the house is now on the city sewage system the house can be used for comercial events. Maybe one day they will do a big garden part like the Ys used to do. The Rowing club was the last group to set up a big tent in the yard.

I finally stopped to snap a quick pick of the Norwood medical clinic on 95 st and 111 Ave. I like it.

I was wondering if anyone knows what's happening across the street at the old Burger Baron lot?

Key to the success of this project is the re-positioning of main floor retail, and upgrades to the existing above ground parking structure. Retail spaces are increased and given a better street presence, and the parkade structure is wrapped in back lit perforated metal panels and break shape trim pieces. A large digital sign board at the northeast corner defines the project and connects to Ice District signage and activities a block away.

Located near the University of Alberta, College Plaza is a vibrant mixed use development serving a variety of clients. A major podium upgrade in the late 90’s began to appear dated after 20 years. The revised design adds a neutral palette and modern materials to reduce the cacophony of colours and shapes in the original design, and replaces main entry canopy features with a more contemporary aesthetic.

^ The revised College Plaza design doesn't look that different to whats existing to me, but toning it down and cleaning it up is good.

^^ Podium looks great, vast improvement! The digital sign is a nice touch.
I might be wrong, but I remember back in the Avord Arms days, the parking entrance ramp was covered with that green fiberglass corrugated paneling...
