Interesting……CN via our fav green and gold contractor is building a new $140M, 512m Beverly Bridge over the N.Saskatchewan……who knew?
I assume that means we'll be seeing the end of the current 1908 bridge, rather than them rehabbing it and running two, correct? Will be interesting to see if, at $140M, it's an interesting piece to look at or just a high cost due to the elevation of the bridge.

Hopefully it’s replaced with a twinned bridge to support regional rail to Strathcona County

Guessing the existing bridge will be retained for the medium-term. It’s old, but I think it’s in fairly good condition (this is CN’s mainline, so I bet they’ve taken care of it, unlike CP and the HLB). And regional rail would be hard to squeeze in here even with two tracks… this line is very busy and close to two major yards, meaning slow frequent freight trains. If regional rail was ever built, I bet they would have to build their own dedicated third bridge.

Highway 2 QE needs the 3rd lane. Drive up from Calgary last afternoon and from Red Deer north I was lucky to do 80kph , either that we need to teach people to get out of the left lane. That road can never be 120. . Its almost as bad as the lower mainland highways

Last year it took me about 3 hours to drive Hwy 1 from West Vancouver to Chilliwack due to construction. I refuse to drive to/from Vancouver again until this construction is completed.

Good question…..their presser says nothing about “single or double” lines…..

NOTE: I lied, “SINGLE TRACK.”
Where is the press release on this? Google is failing me.

$140m sounds cheap to me for a heavy freight bridge of that span, even if it's only a single track.

We need passenger rail to take off vehicles off the highway

Yes I added a half hour out of van, (Pit Meadows) to Hope due to construction. But there were signs of more coming. And I think I will only use the Yellowhead to drive to Van the next few times. Highway one is going to be hell for a few more years. added an hour from Kamloops to Golden on Sat, And was lucky the Sicamoose detour was closed when I cam through.

The one place that I feel like self-driving cars could make things better is for highway driving. Too much speed inconsistency all across the map. I would like to use my adaptive cruise control for most of the time whenever I have to make the drive, but people cutting in way too close after passing, undertaking, tailgating, speeding up and slowing down, etc. etc. ruin it.
