Misc. Transportation Projects

When I decelerate to local limits after I have spent the day driving on the near-to-no-limits highways I have a hard time slowing down (a personal failing) -- people spend too much time going "nowhere fast". Don't increase speeds -- this from someone who used to cower from the no speed limits on the German Autobahns.

I want the 120 km/hr speed limit tested on the QE2 between Edmonton and Calgary.
Also, the left-lane truck ban needs immediate action.
THIS. When I'm in the area, I'm rather astounded at how aggressive semi- drivers can be, well large work vehicles in general actually. I'm blown away when I see semis stick to the left lane on the Henday for example.

There is little excuse for not enacting a prohibition.

On the other hand, if some people were more patient and let the truck drivers change lanes back over (presumably after they've passed someone using left lane) rather than pass them on the right, that would also help.

There's a certain subset of drivers here who seem to be incapable of driving without tailgating someone at any given moment. The wildly varying speeds of motorists and poor lane discipline across the board sometimes makes highway driving very frustrating.

Passing slower traffic should still be allowed, no question. What gets people riled up is seeing instances of two or three 18-wheelers riding side-by-side and blocking traffic behind them, especially on the QE2 or on the Yellowhead Highway.

Experienced this driving to Kananaskis today. I was driving on Stoney Trail and pulled up to a pickup truck with a trailer in the left lane whom I wanted to pass. Not wanting to fly by on his right side, I used my left blinker and quickly flashed my brights. He signalled to move to the middle lane, but then the pickup truck behind me, also wanting to pass, just cut into the middle lane at that moment rather than waiting a little longer 😑

Laws against both left lane camping and passing on the right need to be strictly enforced together.
