If it wasnt for the staff that had been at that 142st location forever and will he missed, that locations disaster would be absolutely hilarious. Not surprised at all about L’OCA. Their prices were too high and there are a lot of people out there struggling with the increase in food costs right now.
And even opening in a higher income neighborhood like the Parkview location doesn’t automatically spell success because apart from a few niche items, a lot of what they sold could be found within a 5-7 min drive for alot less.
Is the Solar restaurant now open at Jasper/104 St? It appeared so when I drove by this morning.
Any day now as they are doing some testing/run-throughs.
Well off people also know how to get to Costco too and do notice if prices nearby diverge too much from elsewhere. I agree the problems were scale and perhaps trying to do to many things at once.If it wasnt for the staff that had been at that 142st location forever and will he missed, that locations disaster would be absolutely hilarious.
Imagine buying a store, that has all the equipment you need for what you do, a loyal clientele, and a great location, and manage to mess it up that bad. All while taking over a restaurant and a seperate building in the same strip mall. Absolute disaster
Sure, Ian, flaunt your ability to eat solid food. That grilled cheese sammich almost makes me weep...
Old Continental Treat location on Jasper being replaced by Hardware Grill?

Oh okay, that was before my time. No, it was the other way around.
1000%. There is this woerd mentality that well to do people dont know the price of things that arent luxury products.Well off people also know how to get to Costco too and do notice if prices nearby diverge too much from elsewhere. I agree the problems were scale and perhaps trying to do to many things at once.
Restaurants, especially starting up, need a lot of attention so probably took away some from what should have been their main focus.
I like that the fish comes wrapped in a newspaper when you get it to-go. Helps me get a bit of extra solvents in my digestive tract.Had dinner at Lawson's Fish & Chips tonight. The food was quite good. The fast-casual setup is similar to Brits, which is still alive on Argyll Road.
My only 2 gripes:
- Hours: They are closed on Sundays and on Saturdays during the day.
- Location: They are located in the western outskirts of the city, almost on the Henday. I wish they were located closer to the core.
Lawson's is good enough a for a repeat visit, although the next time I'm craving fish & chips then I'll sooner go to Winston's.
