A L'OCA downtown or in Wihkwentowin would go crazy

Maybe Warehouse District? Podium of Parks?

I'm a certified hater so knowing that the scumbags ownership at Go Auto likely took a massive financial L on the entire L'OCA venture gives me sick pleasure.
It is funny that Go Auto has so many haters. I have heard some horror stories from them, but I have personally only had good experiences (specifically with Norden VW)

Same. I know a guy who works at a Go Auto facility and even he hates them, but Northstar Hyundai has been immaculate for me thus far.

Woah. That’s crazy. Interested to hear what happened.

Sucks for Crestwood area. Fresno bros to the north was probably tough competition. Then you have Walmart, Safeway, freshco, no frills all within 7 minutes too.

Call me crazy but L'OCA would've worked better in the Brewery District or closer to the core tbh.
I think the problem was the scale. There is 100% a market for high quality, locally-sourced goods. I went there semi-regularly for that part of it.

The problem is that they also had staple goods at huge markups. So they were functionally putting themselves in competition with both smaller boutique stores and grocery giants.

They needed to either drop the non-local, non-specialty goods and operate out of a much smaller facility with less overhead, or they needed to compete better on prices for the baseline product offerings. The former would have been more effective, given the neighborhood. The model they used was simply not feasible.

I'm not one to complain though, I like Freson Bros better anyway.

Since my kid worked there we were decent acquaintances of the GM of Pyro and Oro…..I’m gonna reach out to him and ask him what happened. Funnily enough we had dinner and drinks with him back in Nov, when I inquired, “how’s business at L’oca.” He exclaimed business was “nuts!”

One of us on here called it a while ago….i think it was @Airboy who predicted their demise

Not surprised at all about L’OCA. Their prices were too high and there are a lot of people out there struggling with the increase in food costs right now.

And even opening in a higher income neighborhood like the Parkview location doesn’t automatically spell success because apart from a few niche items, a lot of what they sold could be found within a 5-7 min drive for alot less.
