Federal Politics

Tariffs have been delayed 30 days in Canada.
And Premier Smith was very instrumental in this happening. Her advocacy for diplomacy and remaining level headed throughout this negotiation has been impressive. Compare her performance with the unhinged TDS unprofessional nonsense from Trudeau, Joly, Butts, Carney (who thinks he is already the PM) and the rest of the incompetent political "leadership". This government has left this incredibly fortunate yet underperforming country very weak and disrespected. Hopefully the country can elect leaders who understand the importance of resource development (not "sunset" industry BS and Gieubault / Carney nonsense). Canada should be a economic powerhouse but has the same GDP per capita as small European countries that endured two world wars and have very little natural resources. Its interesrting how much shade Premier Smith takes on this forum but when she is obviously part of something positive ..... crickets.

From NDP apologist Don Braid :

"Premier Danielle Smith, alleged traitor and quasi-separatist nation-wrecker, appears to have helped save Canada from tariffs. Smith has been urging Ottawa to appoint a drugs and border czar — preferably an army general — to head up border security. She figured that U.S. President Donald Trump really was focused mostly on the border and wanted extremely tough action. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau now agrees. After a phone call with Trump, he tweeted: “Canada is making new commitments to appoint a Fentanyl Czar, we will list cartels as terrorists, ensure 24/7 eyes on the border, launch a Canada-U.S. Joint Strike Force to combat organized crime, fentanyl and money laundering."

Smith licked boots while everyone else stood up for Canada. Even Doug Ford put aside partisan politics to stand up for his country.

The transition away from oil and gas is a necessity and we're significantly behind the 8-ball on it, France has been almost fully nuclear for nearly 50 years. China is rapidly moving to renewables.

Oil and gas will be seen the same way horse drawn carriages are today in 20 years, it's time to get with the program, or we will all pay the price.

Carbon capture is greenwashing, and completely useless.

Premier Smith is knowledgeable, competent, hard-working, calm, focuses on important issues and she knows the importance of diplomacy - the opposite of narcissistic silver spoon dim-wit Trudeau and his inner cabal of sychophants who denigrate Canada, attack our most important industry, embarrasses the country repeatedly on the international stage, has created the worst economically performing G7 country, suspends parliament during a national economic emergency and supports a WEF "climate change" tax everything elitist snob (Carney) who could care less about average Canadians who are struggling mightily. I live overseas and my wife is not Canadian - people over here, and in her country think Trudeau is a joke and Canada's international reputation has taken a big big hit. But still so many on this forum put down Premier Smith and think Mark Carney is the answer - it's truly unbelievable - its like Stockholm Syndrome on steroids.

China burns more coal than ever before and continues opening coal powered energy stations around the country. Actually, the USA has reduced CO2 emissions consistently for the past 20 years, mostly by phasing out coal and using more natural gas. Also, Premier Smith didn't "lick boots" she was using diplomacy - she has been arguing for energy dependance for Canada and opening new markets for our resources which will benefit the whole country. The BS she takes from eastern Canada by TDS Trudeau lovers like Andrew Coyne is quite astonishing. She also is protecting Alberta from federal overreach. Canada needs to generate wealth from private investment and our resource industry is very good at doing this. Trudeau / Carney Liberals will continue the government wealth generation model by taxing energy, funding money losing ventures like the EV-battery fiasco and hiring more government workers in central Canada. This model doesn't work. Also, the lefty media can now add the word "traitor" to the other words like "far right" and "fascist" and "nazi" and "genocide" that they like to misuse to verbally assault and demean its opponents. I used to respect Andrew Coyne but he has now become an obscene hysterical poster child for the dangers of TDS.

Since you’re overseas and don’t pay taxes here you don’t have the right to an opinion on anything Canada….read the room and piss off! Premiers don’t get paid for international diplomacy! It’s not their job and it certainly isn’t C@@t face’s job. Build hospitals and look after affairs within her province is her job, not to schmooze with that Orange faced Sociopath.

So Doug Ford cancels Starlink - Freeland wants to ban "X" and Tesla. They do this because they oppose Elon Musk's efforts to reduce waste and irresponsible usage of hard-earned tax money from tax payers. Part of why Americans voted for Trump is he campaigned that he would reduce the size of government and government spending - so Musk is doing what Trump hired him to do and what most Americans in a democratic country support. But according to Doug Ford and Freeland Musk is a bad dangerous person. Do they realize how stupid they sound? Do they realize that they are acting like children? Now Eby in BC bans USA booze, but only from "red states" - so he is making this about identity politics. How can Canada grow up and be a competitive respected country with imbeciles like this holding major political positions.

You do realize that building hospitals, staffing them, and all of our social programs need to be paid for ? We can only do that if we have money. How do we get money ? We do this by diversifying our economy and customers. As I have said many times before. WE SHOULD HAVE BUILT PIPELINES. But, BC and Quebec thumbed their noses at it. Along with all the red tape, eco warriors, do-gooders and the like.
I frankly do not care who gets credit for the tariffs not going into effect tomorrow. Oh, btw, when my wife saw what JT did to "appease" Trump, ( securing the border, fighting cartels and stopping drugs), she said, oh, I thought we were doing that already !
That is the big problem with us. We like to spend money on all sorts of things, which in itself is not bad. But, you have to secure you borders, you need to tackle criminals, you need to enforce the rules you already have, you need to ensure that we import the best and the brightest people, that will improve Canada for ALL PEOPLE.

What we need to do now is
1. Continue to buy and support Canadian products and services.
2. Get rid of interprovincial barriers ( I hear a lot about this)
3. Look into signing new trade agreements with EU, Asia, Mexico, South America, basically any country that is not the US
4. Reduce red tape for large infrastructure projects ( ports, pipelines, airports, railways)
5. Change our attitude from, oh, it's too difficult, to get'er done.
6. Put Canada first and stop trying to be a "world citizen"
7. Most importantly, never forget the last few days, when the USA declared economic war on us. Sure Trump will be gone in 3 years and 50 weeks. But we need to remember this, and never allow any other country to threaten us that way.

Nation building is not easy. Sacrifices will need to be made, if we want this country to be better for us, and more importantly for our kids, then we need to start tomorrow. Not maybe, not we'll see, not what about the fish in the river. As much as I do not like JT, it's not %100 his fault. The courts, red tape and regulations are stacked against us. But, he was the one that sent Germany and Japan packing when they came asking for LNG. We as Canadians need to take a long hard look at ourselves and decide what our future will be. Will we leave other countries dictate to us how we live, or do we take the world by the "parts" and blaze our own path,

Regarding Danielle Smith. I get it, some people do not like her, but she sure put AB first. Plus, she want not the only PM who went to Trump to make her point. I swear with some people, if she said the sky is blue, they would say the sky is red. It's ok to disagree, but disagreeing for 'just because' is not acceptable.

We are absolutely right to do this. This is not about identity politics. This is about fighting back when your neighbor, friend, and the ally that Canada has spilled it blood for in many wars over the year threatens to decimate your economy. Now that the threat of tariffs has been paused for 30 days, I am guessing that the Starlink contract and USA win ban will absolutely be reviewed in 31 days.

I do pay taxes in Canada - I am in complete legal compliance. I also pay taxes in the country I work in. Who are you to tell me I don't have the right to have an opinion on anything in Canada? Last time I checked I am still a Canadian citizen. Your lefty control freak big government tendencies are all over your misguided "Coynian" statement here. Also, Alberta is an exporting province and its exports account for the majority of the value of all Canadian exports - of course its the Premiers job to look after international relationships. And Trump apparently now is a "sociopath" - another word you can add to "far right fascist nazi" and all the other terms of convenience lefty types like you throw around so easily and with little regard for their meaning or context.

So republicans in Minnesota won't be targeted by Eby but democrat voters in Texas will? Ok .... now I get it.

I'm not sure why you would take offense with that.

It's no different that Trump targeting non-energy exporting provinces 2 1/2 time the tariffs he was going to impose on other voters from other provinces.

The USA based its tariff rates on economics, not political identity. The 10% tariff was on energy products from all provinces, despite their political leanings. Eby publicly stated that he would target "red states". The lower tariffs on Canadian energy is solely because this energy source for the USA is more important to them than Maple Syrup and shitty Chryslers.
