From the Edmonton Journal...
"The Oilers are riding high on a 13-game winning streak. Team spirit is high, with every player on the roster delivering some degree of value to the effort. For his part, Perry had his contract terminated by Chicago Blackhawks, reportedly for some unruly behaviour at a team off-ice function. To his credit, he took full ownership of the problem, and took a number of weeks away from the game for rehabiltation. For those same weeks, speculation has swirled regarding his next destination, with Edmonton being a frequently-mentioned destination.
It certainly makes some sense at one level. The squad as currently comprised has zero active players (though one assistant coach) who has the experience of winning the Stanley Cup. That’s a box Perry checked way back in his sophomore campaign as a member of the 2006-07 Anaheim Ducks. Many years later, he won a trio of conference championships in consecutive seasons with 3 different clubs: Dallas, Montreal, Tampa Bay. The 38-year-old right winger has played in 196 Stanley Cup playoff games, the most among active players, while his 53 goals, 71 assists, and 124 postseason points all rank inside the top 10.
Perry’s winning experience goes far beyond that one Stanley Cup title. He is a member of the Triple Gold Club, and is one of just two players to ever win all of the Memorial Cup, World Junior, Stanley Cup, Olympic gold, World Championship gold, and World Cup of Hockey gold. (The other is Scott Niedermayer.)"
