To be fair, ALT Hotel isn't in Vancouver either.
I'm positive Edmonton will get an ALT. Maybe not in ICE District due to competition with Marriott but close by. I'm thinking SE corner of 101 St/104 Ave or even Tower 101.

It would be really good to get rid of the eye sore that is the Tower 101 site. The city should focus on this.

IDK, maybe an effort was made here. Unfortunately the current owners seem like a dog in a manger - they can't seem to make it work, but they won't let go either.

Hopefully, whoever wants to build the third tower here will resurrect a taller design. Another skyscraper in Ice District would be pretty cool.

If the office tower does go ahead, I would be alright with that height as it will still affect the vertical and affect its parameter significantly. If a second hotel is ready to be realized, I'd preferred that to be directly across from Qualico's current rental construction (block J north east portion). Hotel/specialized rentals with ensuite for weekly of short monthly rentals for temporarily stationed workers etc. Anything directly adjacent to the arena shouldn't have to be super tall and 14-18 floors would suffice there. Further to that, it would pull in Epcor, CN and the currently construction that is ongoing as completely part of the core pushing the downtown's core up northward.

We really do not need more office space right now. I could see residential or hotel/residential combo making the most sense for this spot right now.

Hopefully that means a taller tower and something reasonably nice.

Remember that the tower height is limited to 42 floors including those that are already in place.

Yes, I was aware there was a limit in place, although I didn't recall exactly what it was. By taller, I mean taller than the 16 storey office building proposed for CWB.

@IanO, funny enough I was at the game yesterday and snapped a shot on the way out. Totally agree, the plaza came together excellently and ICE District (at least when it's busy) feels like a very happening place and a truly "high-urban" environment akin to something you might see in Toronto or Montreal. Actually, having been to both Maple Leaf Garden / Jurassic Park and the plaza just outside Centre Bell, I have to say ICE Plaza meets or exceeds them in terms of vibes. The lighting is beautiful.

Gotta say how impressive this area looked pre-Oilers on Friday. The lighting, skating, fire and number of people made it feel incredibly 'big city'. Imagine what a 300-400 unit apartment would do, along with another bar/rest where Rexall was.

Stantec Tower really needs a bar ... not.
