Yes, kind of oddly for a capital city things that succeed here often do so without much help of the provincial government, not because of it.
 
Interesting read. These three graphs really stick out to me, and I wonder what is going on that seems to be Edmonton getting hammered on these three metrics, where:
  • Our real median household income has dropped
  • Our median total debt has skyrocketed
  • Our mortgage delinquency is far higher than our cohort
Particularly relative to Calgary, who has faced similar economic conditions over the past 5-10 years.

^ I believe a good bit of this is in line with the developer-ethos in Calgary vs Edmonton. Back to something aligned with @constance_chlore comments on another thread. In Edmonton there is a preponderance of developers aiming for the bottom in terms of both quality and design aesthetics -- some of the same who have the attitude "good enough for Edmonton". It leads a growing sense of malaise that is very frustrating to deal with.
