Edmonton City Centre Mall (Renovations) | ?m | 2s | LaSalle Investment Management

There are salvageable parts of this mall that could be retained with a major rethink of how it fits into the downtown scene -- there will be a better financial impetus for this once the VLW is complete and functioning. Planning for that eventuality, however, should begin now.
Assuming VLW will be approximately on schedule and not so delayed like its eastern counterpart, now or fairly soon would probably make sense to start redevelopment, so it could be completed when VLW is done and running.

I think the space could definitely use a bank. Or maybe another Shoppers with its windows plastered with giant photos of smiling old people blowing dandelion fluff to express their joie de vivre, as supported by a variety of pharmaceuticals.
We could bring the Northeast side of Edmonton downtown by opening up a liquor store, weed store, pizza place and a shawarma/donair place side by side.

I actually wouldn't mind this haha. Maybe a Costco Business center instead of a regular Costco though. All that's missing is the Costco grey corrugated metal cladding, which would be a perffffect cladding choice for Downtown Edmonton 😆

Wong walked attendees through phased changes to what’s now known as The Amazing Brentwood at a former mall in Burnaby, near Vancouver. The first phase of the redevelopment was completed in 2021, and added nearly 500,000 square feet for outdoor retail, new offices, three residential towers, a plaza, and six levels of underground parking. Wong said elected officials in Burnaby and British Columbia have pushed for more density in the city, especially near LRT, and that this was a guiding force in the redevelopment.
