Edmonton City Centre Mall (Renovations) | ?m | 2s | LaSalle Investment Management

I’m of the firm belief that this highlighted area just needs to be demolished and turned into a nice park/plaza (as a gathering space for Ice District patrons) until the market for new towers in this space materializes. Then, the whole mall should be consolidated into the eastern half. I believe this spares the movie theatre, which is a plus.

This would be the last part of CC I would Demo.

A hotel, hotel convention spaces and a theatre.

All pretty necessary dt amenities.

At this point I think the best chance of having this mall be somewhat successful would be to consolidate everything on the east side and tear down the west side (really there’s not much left on the west side anyways except for some banks, cell phone kiosks and Dollarama. Then there’s literally an open canvas of a whole city block adjacent to an LRT station for a developer to do whatever (please no 6 storey wood frame apartments!)
Just like razing the old BMO building has helped Dt?

Something like ECC isn't replaceable if it's torn down. If you added 20,000 residents with a finished LRT line we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Mall capacity at the big 3 is nearly full now. Brewery doesn't have retail capacity. The only places left are the few Langham CRUs, a single Westrich CRU, and ECC. Anything east of ECC doesn't have enough housing to support retail (among other things).

I know some of you may think I'm delusional, but as someone that grew up recently in West Edmonton (Grovenor/Glenora), there is a psychological barrier that makes WEM feel closer than Downtown. The train line will change that. The Oilers dragging in younger people for the last 4 years has also done so much good for DTs reputation.

Getting rid of ECC would be a bigger mistake than the destruction of Tegler.

A big weekend here at CCM and UNCEDED. Sixteen different vendors from I.AM.Collective and a number of entertainers (drummers, dancers, singers). Come on down and join in as we commemorate Red Dress day. 50% off entrance tickets to UNCEDED.

Completely agreed. I saw "Sinners" downtown on Friday night and the screening was very busy. There was also a well-attended event happening at the convention space when I walked by. We look at all the vacant retail spaces in ECC and despair, but what remains are amenities that we shouldn't want to lose.

Does anyone here know anything about the legal parcel makeup of CCW? I'm curious as to whether the hotel portion is a separate airspace legal parcel, and if it does comprise an airspace parcel, whether the hotel component has a freehold or leasehold interest?

Revolver should be opening soon in the old Coles space on the 1st floor. I didn't snap any pics since there are no signs, but when I took a peek through the hoarding I could spy a rack of CDs on the wall.

Booster Juice is finally open in the pedway.
The Booster Juice nicely fills the one empty space here and the area is turning into a good collection of food and beverage places. Maybe the larger space just to the east can become something similar.

I don't know about specifics, but I can share that ECC staff has told me that the Delta is owned and operated separately from CCW. How this translates to the second and third floors (District 102 and the grand ballroom), I'm not sure. I believe the west parking garage is parcelled with the hotel as well.

I popped into Revolver the other day and spoke to the manager. He seemed extremely pleased with business in the new location. (Indeed, there were already more customers in the store than I ever saw in the Westmount location over several dozen visits over the years.) I'm happy the move is working out for them, and for the mall.

Oh hell yeah, that's great news. Hopefully the word spreads and other prospective retailers make the move if it's possible for them.

Yes, it looked busier than expected when I went by on Friday after mid afternoon. There are still many people who live and work downtown.

Part of it is finding the right mix of retail and services to fill the spaces, so many of which were vacated during COVID.

This is no longer an upscale clothing mall like the suburban ones, but there is a nice mix of interesting new places that are slowly coming in to replace that.
