119 Avenue bike route this morning near Coliseum. The hoar frost in the trees made for a pretty magical commute this morning.

97th St Multi Use Path from 51st->63rd is now complete. Still landscaping work and some road paving to be done.
Big improvement! And orders of magnitude better than 97th St from 34th->51st where there is often no sidewalk.

Just wished there were better routes in the Northwest.

A regional/metropolitan district would probably be needed to get connections out from the suburbs because City of Edmonton has no incentive to do so.
On another note, finally took the new SUP running along the south side of Yellowhead Trail from 89 St all the way to Fort Road then up to 66 St. that was built as part of the Yellowhead Trail noise wall and Fort Road train underpass rebuild. I was surprised as I expected the SUP to end at 81 St and it continued on. One can cross over at 66 St to the other side to the new Fort Road/Manning Drive SUP, and (CORRECTION) 89 St will connect to the new 124 Ave bike lane and extensions of the 92 and 96 St bike lanes (Previously noted 89 St would be a future bike lane)

Project Update - November 2024
Active transportation construction on new shared pathways at locations around the city has wrapped up for the 2024 season. In total, 6 connections are now open, while the remaining 2024 locations will continue construction in 2025.Landscaping for the newly constructed locations will be completed next season when the weather warms up.
Planning and design for the 2025 routes is underway and anticipated to be completed in early 2025.

The progress the city made on 2024 was a bit underwhelming. All the projects were basically sidewalk widening like on 66st or 153Ave and basically nothing was done in these areas. I don't think the city even completed 10km of sidewalk widening.
With more work planned for 2025 and 2026 compared to the list in 2024, I hope the city can step it up.

Does anyone know if these two routes along 23 Ave that were part of the 2024 active transportation network are complete?
- 23 Avenue (50 Street to 85 Street)
- 23 Avenue (111 Street to 119 Street)

About 1,000 metres of Fort Road was complete, fully from Belvedere up to Storage Mart, then there's a gap at Londonderry Chrysler, then it continues from the bingo hall to Bartle & GIbson. They revised the schedule from doing the whole stretch in 2024 to finishing up to 137 Ave, but here we are, 420 metres short of that goal.
850 metres complete on 50 St at least.
I should have checked 153 Ave and 97 St when I was out that way. I do have a dentist appointment next week, I can go then. That would be 2350 metres if they did it. 23 Ave would be 1150 metres 111 to 119 St and 2650 metres 50 to 85 St if completed. So altogether, 3.7 km confirmed completed, potentially up to 9.85 km, but yes short of 10 km either way.
I do have to give them credit, I don't think the 1250 metres on 97 St from 63 Ave to 51 Ave was noted on any publicly announced plans, and every neighbourhood renewal seems to add a continuous shared use path.
