Cycling and Active Transportation in Edmonton

Critical mass Friday if anyone wants to join. I'll be there with my kid, just deciding whether I'm bringing my analogue bike or electric long tail.

I'm going, too. Almost 200 people signed up now I hear. Will be a good presence as group travels down Jasper and Whyte Avenues.

If you're thinking about it, join and bring family/friends. Can get discount to Lime bikes if don't have one by contacting the group.

Bicycle triggered traffic light at 97th St and Whyte has been installed. 😎

How about about Whyte Ave and 96 St? I'm perplexed by the lack of traffic lights at that intersection, given that 96 St passes through the heart of the Ritchie neighborhood.

I've had to cancel, baby is sick. I was really looking forward to this.

I didn't take photos but rode the new 50 St MUP from the hydro ROW to 153 Ave, the pathway is mostly complete and they're just doing landscaping and lighting.

Also, rode that hydro ROW from Belle Rive to 50 St and it's a surprisingly nice path.

The city is meeting with some active transportation stakeholders on Wednesday to share plans for 107Ave SUP from 163st to 127st.

In some sections on the Southside of 107Ave there is currently no infrastructure of any kind (not even sidewalks) and then in other parts there is a sidewalk that will need to be replaced with a wider piece of infrastructure which will involve the removal of some trees and light poles. Rust is getting pretty bad on the light poles.
It will be interesting to see how they propose to handle the 142st traffic circle.
It would be nice to make these SUP at about 3m on each side of 107ave.
Here are some pics along 107ave.

Any way to get an invite for that meeting or to hear about it afterwards? Would love to help represent the west end in case there’s not a ton of west end voices involved (my experience is that many of our advocacy groups have many more central or south central members and knowledge of the west end isn’t always as high. So input for projects like 95ave can be less strong/informed of nuances).

A west end voice would be valuable for the city. Given that it's not my meeting, I've sent a message to the city to see if I can share link with you.

It's a great path all the way from Manning drive to Dunluce, except there is no crossing at 97 St, and it could be extended west past Castle downs road (that might already be in the Dunluce renewal)
