Blatchford

Chief Billy Morin first formally floated the idea of an urban reserve in 2016 when Enoch Cree Nation signed a memorandum of understanding with the city on protecting the gravesite in Glastonbury but ongoing discussions well preceded that.

At the time City administration was expected to present an urban reserve report to council in three months after working with the confederacy of Treaty 6 First Nations and a City Strategy was finally adopted until 2021 following Winnipeg’s lead (noting we still haven’t come close to what’s taken place and continues to take place in Winnipeg).

I wonder if the Metis Nation scaled back their ambitions and are just focusing now on the one building that is planned to be started this year. Perhaps elements of this can be part of the Urban Reserve plan coming back to council later this year but it seems like a different project.
