6 more UCP legislature members facing recall petitions, including 5 from Calgary area

9 members of Alberta legislature now face approved recall petitions

Elections Alberta says six more members of Premier Danielle Smith's United Conservative Party caucus are facing recall petitions, bringing the total to nine.

The latest petitions are for cabinet ministers Rajan Sawhney (Calgary-North West), Myles McDougall (Calgary-Fish Creek), Dale Nally (Morinville-St. Albert) and RJ Sigurdson (Highwood).

They also target House Speaker Ric McIver (Calgary-Hays) and Muhammad Yaseen (Calgary-North), associate minister for multiculturalism.

Elections Alberta previously approved petitions to recall Education Minister Demetrios Nicolaides (Calgary-Bow), backbencher Nolan Dyck (Grande Prairie) and deputy Speaker Angela Pitt (Airdrie-East).

The approval process allows the person who launched the petition to collect signatures over a period of months in a constituency. If they collect enough, a vote is held on whether to recall the legislature member.

It's a long process, but if all nine MLAs are defeated in constituency votes, the United Conservatives would lose their majority status.

Keep 'em coming! :D
The problem is that they have a finite amount of time and the signatures have to be hand-written. It's unlikely to actually impact the caucus, but it does show a strong discontent for the UCP governance, which hopefully will bring about change.

20% (and growing) of the UCP is now under threat of Recall. How this the government even still functioning?
As badly as ever, I think.
Alas, I genuinely don't think that they care and they keep proving it over and over again, while the "my pappy voted blue and his pappy before him so I also vote blue" contingent continues to vote for them so...I guess they don't have to?

As much as we hope this government will be crushed. I do not see it. No MLA will break away at this point. Either way any that break away will be tainted. And the Rural areas will still vote overwhelmingly UCP. Unless we get a new PC group. ( A Lougheed Conservative Group).
