Dale Nally has been the Minister of Service Alberta and Red Tape Reduction since October 2022. Prior to that he was Associate Minister of Natural Gas and Electricity.

I'm voting for Nenshi - he has the best chance of leading the NDP to a win in 2027 if he can get all of Calgary to vote orange. I'm not sure any of the other candidates can move the needle to that extent, even with Ganley being from Calgary. I also like that he knows the ins and outs of municipal governance and what the 'big cities' need in terms of funding.

If Nenshi Takes it, the rest of the leadership runners are pretty good as well. Could be a hell of a cabinet.
Unlike when the NDP were unexpectedly elected in 2015 and they were lacking quality options to be cabinet ministers. They essentially had to double up some ministries. And to make matters more challenging, they had to manage government with $20 oil. A very different situation now with the people/MLAs in that party.

Not sure if anyone listened to Real Talk with Ryan Jespersen today, but Nenshi is not holding back. He was sharply critical of Danielle Smith, Adriana LaGrange, and the UCP as a whole. (In a cutting, yet sincere and honest way that I feel has set him apart from the other leadership candidates.)

I bought an NDP membership to vote in this leadership race. After hearing Nenshi the past couple days, he has my vote.

Gondek's mayoral term has been a disaster and it's only making Nenshi's tenure as mayor all the better in hindsight. Good time to announce.

It is going to be wildly entertaining if nothing else.

Here is rebuttal from UCP today.

"It would make Josef Stalin blush, how much this NDP wants to go down the road of communism in our province,” said Jason Nixon, minister of seniors, community and social services.

Stalin was the brutal leader of the Soviet Union from 1924-52.

"I guess the fact is that even when Nenshi gets here and changes their colour to purple and changes their name, we’re still going to see a socialist party across from us,” Nixon went on.
