    Winspear Centre Completion Project | 29.87m | 4s | Winspear Centre | Andrew Bromberg

I know this one has been going forever, but since it picked up over the summer it seems like it's been full-speed ahead, no? My understanding is that the pandemic, inflation, and district energy plan caused major delays and redesigns but finally now I get the sense it's proceeding without delay...

    Downtown

I live downtown and my neighbour and I were just commenting earlier today about how downtown has had a lot more foot traffic lately. I was actually walking down a quieter street a couple days ago (102 st north of Jasper) and there were a dozen people walking on the street. Much more than before...

Edmonton City Centre Mall (Renovations) | ?m | 2s | LaSalle Investment Management

I saw T. Kettle packing everything up today. Looks to me like they are gone for good. (There could be something else going on but seems unlikely).

    Downtown

No bones about it, downtown would be in a much more dire state without the arena and Oilers downtown.

Edmonton City Centre Mall (Renovations) | ?m | 2s | LaSalle Investment Management

I agree with this being the play and I think I'd emphasize a focus on senior living, perhaps borrowing from the relatively successful model that Meadowlark has implemented. If you put up two high rises with a focus on seniors as demographics continue to age, and then fill most of the mall with...

While I admire your enthusiasm to pay the unpaid debt and lost tax revenue on behalf of these businesses when they fold, this take is short-sighted. We are better off supporting an extension up until the end of 2024 that helps to bridge the gap until interest rates potentially come down (and...

    Valley Line LRT/ Valley Line West | ?m | ?s | City of Edmonton

I think that's a strategic mistake. They should start by over-serving at first to generate buzz about how fast and effective the LRT is: "Wow, every time I show up at a station there is a train only a minute away" for say the first three months and then lower if needed to hit supply-demand...

    Valley Line LRT/ Valley Line West | ?m | ?s | City of Edmonton

I heard from a high quality source it's launching in 2-3 weeks but exact date not finalized yet. Just throwing more fuel on the "coming soon" fire.

I'm glad it's not just me. I thought I hadn't walked by that spot in so long that it might have been there for a while but I guess it's new then. I don't know when they must have removed all of the old LED lighting that was there. Hope the new stuff is an improvement, but shame the old lighting...

    Downtown Real Estate

I'm hearing rumours that a lot of residential conversion is planned downtown but hanging on city making a decision about a subsidy similar to what other cities have announced. Apparently it's caught up in budget planning. Might see a lot of announcements if the city can make it happen. Something...

    West Edmonton Mall

At the temporary Lululemon store they said the grand opening of their renovated store is Oct 25.

    Valley Line LRT/ Valley Line West | ?m | ?s | City of Edmonton

Agreed. Everywhere I go on the line I'm seeing removal of a lot of materials that indicate final touches. It's possible they'd do this work without a clear path to open but it looks like final work being done to go operational to me. I suspect any delay in launch date announcement is more about...

Edmonton City Centre Mall (Renovations) | ?m | 2s | LaSalle Investment Management

I asked them about this last year as well and wasn't in the plans. I think the boardgame cafe could do reasonably well right in the mall. I'd love to see them set one up and I'd definitely be a regular.

    Downtown Crime

That article just reminded me of how much I miss the Burrow cafe in the LRT station. That was such a great location. Sad it didn't work out.

    Downtown

I haven't had a chance to go to Often yet but FWIW it looks absolutely gorgeous inside. If the food and cocktails match, I hope they find success here. It would be nice to see them open for lunch though. Maybe with time.

    Tower 101 | 175m | 50s | Regency Developments | DER + Associates

Agreed. Frankly it's an eye sore at this point. The street is lovely but its state of repair is an unfortunate first impression for many visitors given its proximity to Westin and Fairmont.

Interesting note: When Enbridge Centre was built, Pangman paid for a detailed concept plan for the redevelopment of RHW. Unfortunately it has never been prioritized and funded. I'll probably be long gone from the area by the time it is. Amazing to me that Edmonton has not done more to keep one...

    Downtown Real Estate

Agree with this thread of discussion. My downtown condo's appraised value has dropped over 30% in the 7 years I've owned it, mostly in the oil bust in late 2010s and then much worse during the pandemic when downtowns hollowed out. The only silver lining is that it might have hit a short term...
