During the panel, Anderson said the market has been in a state where it takes two steps forward and one step back. But there are promising signs. He alluded to an upcoming announcement by a company that has chosen to relocate its head office to Edmonton and will occupy 42,000 square feet.

Has this been announced yet? Or did I miss it.

This was completed at the request of YMCA to fill those holes as we await full street reconstruction starting next year for the Valley Line LRT. Nothing more and has nothing to do with replacing trees.

Is is just me, or does a new focus of the city seem to be destroying trees as well as destroying our downtown? Perhaps two birds with one stone here.

I wonder where Von's will be located. I don't think it will be at First & Jasper but who knows.

BTW I just noticed that the payday loan outlet on 101 St north of Jasper Ave is now closed and the signs removed.

in that case i’m glad this block is scheduled to be getting some tlc…

on the other hand i’m less glad that our maintenance downtown leads to requests like the one you made having to be made.

hopefully the no longer needed bus shelter can be replaced with some patio space for your coffee shop and some landscaping to complement your entry while they’re at it!

Likely a lack of soil cells for the tree's roots to grow into, as well as a lack of permable surface for rainwater penetration into the soil, both of which have afflicted many trees Downtown and contributed to many being unhealthy. Thankfully, trees planted on new streetscapes have a much better situation and should be a lot healthier over time.

Good news! Its a nice location/space with good potential. It is a shame the former place did not make it - the last several years have been very tough for a lot of restaurants and bars.

Good information, hopefully that helps. It is amazing how many things can be bungled, from bridges to LRT. I can sort of understand complex infrastructure projects might have challenges, but would have thought we would have figured out trees a long time ago.

I noticed nice new sod was laid in some parks downtown late last summer, which looked great for about two weeks. Unfortunately the weather was dry and it was not watered soon enough and, well perhaps they shouldn't have bothered. In the end it looked worse, even though a lot of money was probably spent.
