Six weeks since our last update, and the historic 1912 Brighton Block has now officially popped its top. The shell of the former Ernest Brown Block has been restored, while the wholesale revamp of its interior spaces, not to mention its multi-storey expansion, is now well underway.

The brainchild of Hodgson Schilf Evans Architects and Primavera Development Group, the Brighton Block redevelopment and expansion project will breathe new life into the century-old Jasper Ave commercial structure. The re-imagined photography chemist and print shop will be transformed into a 6-storey mixed-use commercial space, with room for office tenants above and retail below.

While perhaps the most dramatic vantage point remains the front facade, the work now underway towards the rear of the structure is also worth noting. Here, the bulk of the transformation is highly visible, a close-up view taken from the rear of the structure highlighting the scope of the work to date.

Once complete, the new top floor office space will rest easy atop the original structure, with a tasteful setback from the street. Down below, the 4,000 sq. ft. retail frontage will blend seamlessly with its surroundings, the early 20th-century facade to be restored to its former glory.

SkyriseEdmonton will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
