Whyte Avenue Bus Lanes

It's frustrating how slow the city is responding to the demand for BRT or LRT on this route. Getting to Whyte without a car is much harder than it should be.

I still don't get why the very affordable gondola isn't being explored further. It would make Whyte and Rossdale feel like extensions of Downtown.

it wasn't financially feasible, intruded on sacred native burial grounds and would have left the city holding the bag.

Their "projected" ridership numbers were the stuff of dreams, never would have made it.

Otherwise, it would have been built, no?

Would the city be left holding the bag? Wasn't the company required to secure the money for potential clean up if this project failed - I can't remember those details.

Lolol... do you seriously not understand why the gondola isn't a good idea?

How many times has that funny-peculiar thing been closed for repairs or vandalized?

Until central Edmonton gets it's social disorder and ease of access problems under control, it is not going to be a smart place to put 'nice things'.

Those are finishing touches for places that have their foundational issues sorted.
 
On the actual topic of Whyte bus lanes...

I wonder how much of an issue having transit users cross the driving lane to reach bus stops will bring, especially late night when there's lots of inebriated folks. Would it make more sense to have the drive lanes in the centre, and bus lanes along the curb? Though, then you introduce extra conflicts when vehicles try to turn off Whyte.

I’ve heard from multiple people in administration that they’ve decided on curb bus lanes
 
Large part of the rationale for curbside lanes seems to be that they can be used as on-street parking or loading zones. Quite disappointed that they're going this direction for what's supposed to be a fast and reliable mass transit corridor.

It's also noteworthy that both B1 (north-south BRT) and B2 (east-west BRT) will use the segment of Whyte between 109 and 104 streets. Sacrificing reliability here is a tremendously bad decision for the whole BRT network.
