Valley Line LRT | TransEd/Marigold | City of Edmonton

Change of topic. Here are some photos:

Grey Nuns stop. Looks like they're continuing to put the catenary poles and cables up.

OMF. The gullwing arms are in a different position every time, one day I'll catch them actually moving.

Churchill Square. Had the place to myself, felt a bit melancholy especially with all the festivals cancelled.

They will dredge all of the land around the bridge piers (only there during construction) and the river will return to its original width. The design engineers have mandated the depth of the footings and they will go well below both the frost line and the bottom of the water table level.
Ah! I've never really paid attention to bridge construction before, so I hadn't considered how it's done. Makes sense there'd be land surrounding the piers during construction so that the crews have something to stand on and a means to get equipment to/from the construction site.

Incidentally, that temporary land created a 'dead spot' around the bend downstream which allowed for silt and sand to accumulate - otherwise better known as Accidental Beach.

This year will be the last for the beach if it reappears at all. Too bad social distancing will mean we won't get to enjoy it anyway.

Went for a walk around Wagner today, completely forgetting that the forested area was fenced off due to Valley Line construction.

This is actually where Mill Creek crosses the alignment, there's a big culvert where the shadows of the trees are. I could see Downtown peeking out between the pier columns - the view from up top must be gorgeous.

I had a good laugh and knew I had to take a photo here. How high do you have to jack your truck up for this to be a concern?

Connors Hill might be the last section for trackbed and concrete?

THAT IS CRAZY! It's good that nobody got hurt, but if it's true that it originated in a homeless camp, then we've got bigger issue here. Crackdowns on these camps are probably gonna become more intensive because of stuff like this imo.
