With this recent freeze-thaw cycle, some city-maintained walks are dangerously icy now, especially those that weren't plowed all the way down to concrete/pavement.
I really wish we had a quicker response time for snow removal of sidewalks and shared-use paths after significant snowfall events.
Having to wait 3 days for a sidewalk to the bus stop to not be covered by a foot of snow and drifts makes it extremely difficult (putting it lightly) for anybody not in a motor vehicle to get around.
It's ridiculous in the cases where there are chunks of the same public walkway that are resident/business-maintained: the portions not maintained by the city are cleared within the 24 hours, but the city-maintained portions remain untouched for days. When there is an accumulation of 5+cm of snow, forget about walking anywhere on a city-maintained walk without difficulty.City council funded snow and ice removal at 20% of the ask in the 2023-26 budget. As our city grows out, problem grows.
I only recently learned that BIAs and businesses with a bus stop within their sidewalk space are responsible for snow removal. Otherwise, it's the city.
I currently can't see over the ones on 95th street very well. I don't expect them to be cleared until the fire department complains. How about removing those centre-line snow drifts in our key areas such as Downtown, Old Strath etc.
I'm still surprised that these are not taken away within say 72hrs of a major dump or series of snowfalls.
