I Know we'd all love if the Tegler had never been demolished in the first place, but at this point, I would've been happy with the BMO building still being there. It wasn't a bad looking building either...
Yes and Energy Square has also recently been improved while still keeping most of its distinctive character, proving it is still possible to make things better, not worse. So it is not all bad news.On a more positive note, the Phipps-McKinnon building looks far better now than then.
Yes, although after some point in time I don't think something can be considered to be temporary. I don't know if there are any rules about this, but to me something like 3 to 5 years makes sense. Many of our gravel parking lots were intended to be temporary. Which reminds me - the parking lot on Jasper Ave beside the Boston Pizza looks like utter crap. Are they allowed to do the bare minimum there or can it be reported?
If you hadn't mentioned grass, I would've thought you were referring to this. It's such a perfect example of Edmonton's philosophy of good enoughism: the crappy grass, the chain link fence, the barely adequate picnic tables, all right in the middle of our most walkable neighbourhood. Yes, it's better than an empty lot but surely we can do better than that!
