Norquest Careers Skills Centre | 34m | 10s | GEC

Coming soon...
---

Entuitive

Entuitive will be providing structural engineering services for NorQuest College’s Career Skills Centre, a transformative project that will expand access to education and address Alberta’s workforce needs.

We're pleased to be collaborating with JLL, GEC Architecture, Clark Builders, MCW Group of Companies, AME Group, V3 Companies, Janet Rosenberg & Studio (JRS), Cygnus Design Group, RDH Building Science, Cini-Little International, Inc., VWMason Technology Consultants Ltd., and Introba.

The planned 35,000 m² facility in downtown Edmonton will accommodate up to 4,000 additional full-time learners and feature dedicated spaces for career-focused programs in key industries, including Energy Management, Machine Learning, and Health Care Aide. It will also include NorQuest’s Indigenous House of Learning and serve as a research hub supporting innovation and workforce development.

Hate to be a killjoy, but I doubt the CSC ends up as that. The final product will likely be scaled down in size and look different from that rendering. I do love that rendering though; it's just a really, really early conceptualized form of that building for visual purposes only. I wish Entuitive put a disclaimer where that rendering was from (the Campus Master Plan).

Here it is again -- can't be Edmonton unless it is "less than". Why not just wait and see what resolves for this building architecturally?

I'm not sure what the basis here is for what seems to be premature speculation. Maybe it will turn out just fine and disappoint those who seem to expect otherwise.

I never suggested the quality of the architecture would be less; I'm only estimating that the scale will likely be smaller and Entuitive should have properly annotated where that rendering came from to give people context. I have zero problem with the pragmatism/optimism of the share, however... in fact, I love it.

Premier Smith has mentioned the centre twice now in the last two weeks. I feel like it might be in the next budget.
We were guesstimating a 2027 start.....

Btw, Clark is the GC? All the photo ops in the past have clearly shown that PCL was going to be the GC....wonder what changed?

You should know better than all/most that highly conceptual early/funding stage designs for major projects are just placeholders and while the concept might be retained, they are often materially different once architects/designers/funders get into SD/DD.
Ian, you and the IceCreamMan both agreed that it would be a scaled down version from the rendering based on the printed words of your posts... all I said was let's wait and see instead of assuming that it will be scaled down. Based on my review of the NorQuest program it seems if anything it may be scaled up. You don't know; I don't know -- so why assume the worst as a default position.

^ And my point is why state anything at all... it's kind of in the ilk of "Nice day if it doesn't rain". The possibilities range from "we decided not build anything at all" to "we misread our needs and the building has to be 15 storeys after all" It was the "The final product will likely be scaled down in size" comment that set off my negativity radar. The point being that it might just as well be scaled up in size. Some Edmontonians are so quick to tear down positivity. On a site that is supposed to be progressive (it's in the name "Skyrise"; 'twould be different if the name was "Sky'sfallin'") it stands out in contrast to what could be.

Now that my rant is done -- please do have a nice day and enjoy your cereal (if there isn't a dead mouse in the bowl).

Sorry archited, not trying to piss you off, and didn't intend to - but I stand by my statement. It's not rooted in negativty either, just realism and precedence. Have heard down the grapevine it may be scaled down a bit... but I suppose we shall see in the end. You can be 'progressive' on here, absolutely, and you should be (everyone should) - but that isn't a mutually exclusive term with realism. Both can exist. I just want people to understand not to get too emotionally attached to that conceptual rendering from a master plan, and I think most people on here understand that.
