Municipal Politics

New poll referenced on Global News this morning as today is final day to enter race.

In poll, 48% undecided. Of those decided, Walters was leading with something like 15%, Cartmell and Knack around 13% and Jaffer in single digits.

It is rumoured that a major force for good in Alberta and Edmonton has died. When announced, the effect of their death and cause will shake the Province and City to its core, and alter its course for a generation.

I saw something on X/Twitter about this last night. Do we know who???

I think the family requested that the person not be referred to by name before they're ready. My understanding (from a friend) is that it's a certain widely beloved active transportation advocate/doctor with a large online presence.
Well that's too bad they have passed.

My condolences to the family.

The death is tragic and they were a great member of the community - I think saying that it will "alter the course for a generation" is significantly over blowing it...

Based on that endorsement, Andrew Knack has my vote and I am sure many others' votes,,
Why? Both pre and post her time in parliament and in cabinet she had an exceptional ability to deal with everyone - liberal, conservative, federal, provincial,. municipal, public, non-profit and private sector. I have heard many stories saying that if it weren't for her support and creativity, a wide range of projects and events would never have taken place including the federal measures that enabled the development of the oil sands and without which the oil sands wouldn't have happened at all. She certainly wasn't the only person responsible but without her contributions the others would not have been enough.

I was hoping to be back in time to vote but it looks difficult presently. It is encouraging to see Michael Walters polling ahead even if by slight margins.

Does that mean you plan to move back as just being here isn’t sufficient to vote provincially or municipally - you need to be resident and have ID that confirms that. It’s not like voting federally where you can still vote as an ex-pat using your last Canadian residence (so they know which riding you can vote in) as long as you have maintained your citizenship and registered with elections Canada (they actually mail out a special ballot to those registered).
