Municipal Politics

Northern Alberta and rural communities continue to download social costs onto Edmonton, and now want a piece of the pie for charitable fundraising from Edmonton. Either eat your cake or still have it, can't be both, Mr Cyr.

It seems a fairly reasonable and basic idea that monies raised in the community by casinos should go back into those communities.

So if a casino is not viable or as lucrative in a smaller community so it moves to a larger one, then the money raised by that casino should also go with it too.

^as councillor...
Andrew Knack

Today, I’m making one of the toughest decisions I’m ever going to make: I have decided not to seek re-election as a City Councillor on Edmonton City Council.
I noticed the same thing... gotta keep your options open.

That said, I sure can't blame him for wanting to run far away from what is probably going to be an ugly next few years of tough fiscal decisions.

He was very thoughtful, smart and hard working. We could only wish that for all of council. I would bet also he's looking to run provincially.
I hope that's his next step, rather than exiting politics altogether. It's nice having someone like Knack on council, with his "not everything is cut-and-dry" mindset. Could use a LOT more of that at the provincial level.

I have long said that there isn’t anyone I know who chooses to run for office that doesn’t do so believing they can positively contribute to making things better.

Not only did that apply to Andrew in 2013, I believe that still applies to him every day he goes to City Hall or where ever else the role takes him.

While I didn’t agree with all of his positions, even on those where we did not he conducted yourself with openness and transparency and integrity and with the best interest of his Ward and the City in mind.

I look forward to his continuing to be an exemplary model for the rest of Council and wish him every success for the balance of his term and for whatever comes next for him once it comes to an end.
