Municipal Politics

Yes, when presented with an opportunity to get something done, he failed, but I suppose vague positive sounding slogans remain the refuge of a political scoundrel.
Let’s gets something done, but not the west valley LRT that’s already started… (in reference to him trying to cancel it last term…)

Dude talks out of both sides of his mouth.

Article is intentionally misleading. Poll shows Knack is clearly the frontrunner. Not sure why the columnist would ignore the truth.

Earlier polls that may be more accurate than callers to a radio show had shown a fairly close race, so the article is definitely not misleading and I believe this came out a bit after the article, so not intentionally either.

The article wasn't based on the small poll from podcast listeners (29 people). So calling the article 'intentially misleading' is kind of like the pot calling...

Which poll? Jesperson one surely isn’t trustworthy in any sense. Have there been actual ones done?

This isn't surprising, Cartmell has been running a pretty lacklustre campaign. Walters is the more competent Cartmell fighting for the same voters, and then you've got Caterina and Jaffer cannibalizing another anti-progressive portion of the vote.

Knack is the only progressive option with name recognition, and idk he doesn't have 4 other candidates cannibalizing his vote share. The Sohi/Iveson coalition needs to just show up and vote behind one candidate making it an easier path to the mayorship. That's not the case for anybody else, and it's one of the biggest issues when you have a crowded field, but crowded only for conservatives and centre-right folks.

If I was Cartmell, I'd be pissed that Walters put his name into the ring, along with Jaffer. Caterina was always going to run anyway.

Or, if you were Cartmell, perhaps you'd be pissed that you failed to provide sufficient reason or justification for Walters not to run?

It’s an indictment on Cartmell that Walters even tried to run in the first place and Walters has the potential to be the dark horse candidate for this race if things go well for him.

I feel we actually have a fairly decent group of candidates running now - two current councilors, two former councilors and one former MP.

Between all of them should be someone that almost everyone could support. I feel in part because of the number of candidates and none being incumbents the race is still more wide open than it seems, but Knack probably is ahead.

Knack started his listening tour today as part of his campaign - I like the approach with the desk out on the street. With Knack, it's credible.

He's also been very "out and about", saw him at Folk Fest then heard he was at Animethon, the DT Carribean festival, and hosted an open house in the same weekend.

This is a good sign, if the listening is sincere and doesn't end after the campaign. I feel probably the biggest beef about the current council is how rigid they often were and not responsive to public feedback.

It seems to be an overall group problem, however some councilors were better than others.
