Nope, different and as per the above unlikely to happen.

Yes, Alberta Avenue has had a number of setbacks over the years and this project would have helped with a small-scale reversal (landed in the dumpster pre-COVID). I know the area because it includes the house that I grew up in near Delton Elementary where I attended (grades 1 to 6) and Eastwood Junior High (grade 7) before we moved out of the area. First came the loss of the packing plants -- Swift, Burns, and Canada Packers; and more recently the demise of Northlands. Alberta Avenue used to be a pretty vibrant street -- not so any more.
The meatpacking industry in Edmonton declined in the 1980s, when many of the plants converted to distribution centers. The Burns plant was demolished in 1988, and the Canada Packers plant was demolished in 1995. The original Swifts building was demolished in 2002.
The industry's decline was marked by poor working conditions, including low pay, dangerous substances, injuries, and worker abuse. Several of the fathers on my block worked at the Packing Plants. Peter Pocklington (grandpapa of the Edmonton Oilers) actually owned Swifts for a period of time.

A big drawback of most modern apartments / condos is lack of storage, so not surprised to see more of these pop up, along with just the growing population's need for storage.

I'd argue that it is as much a transient workforce/population as much as a lack of storage.

I was passing by the Derwas Court apartments for the first time in a while and was really taken by their beauty. Does anyone know what's going on with them? They've been fenced for at least several months—are they being restored?Derwas Court (across from Oliver Exchange) is for sale. I really hope someone picks this beauty up and restores her. I can't speak to the condition of the building but I definitely feel like someone could walk away with a bargain here, despite an undeniable need for restoration $. This location is going to be so hawt in 5-10 years and these lofts could go for a small fortune if they're done properly.

Looks like it will be three 4-unit rowhouses, all with secondary suites. 24 homes on a lot that used to be 2 SFH's
Site has been vacant for 10+ years as well. With the Brentwood project getting started, there will soon be a lot more people in this area to make use of the new Coronation rec centre!
Edit: Their previous work looks to be high quality, this could turn out quite nice!

I really hope so, for it is one of my favourite buildings of that era left.
I also worry about these kinds of buildings given our recent past.

8636 108th St NW in Garneau. I'm not exactly sure what the deal is—I didn't take a close look at the signage—but from searching around online, it looks to be a project called Holland House. By the looks of it, four townhomes with secondary suites?

If I'm not mistaken, it's two 8-unit complexes of two and one bedroom units - there's a second 8-unit complex behind what is pictured here - so 16 units in total.
I'm not sure if there's any room at the back for parking - so it may fall on public street space for those with vehicles or renting a spot nearby.
