Misc. Transportation Projects

I don’t know if the 118/101/Princess Elizabeth traffic circle can be changed. There are residential streets going north and a strip mall on the south side. Three roads mostly merge onto 118 Avenue. It could be even more tricky with a BRT route.

Since it's so long there's plenty of space to reduce the oval-ness of it and turn it into a more normal roundabout with rational approach angles which would be fine. Or a signalized intersection.

I agree it's a difficult area to navigate. Wouldn't something like this be an improvement?

I'm game for anything at all! It's also funny cause from the aerial shot it doesn't really seem like it would be as much of a gong show as it is; being on the ground, however, feels very different.

As I look at it, I think the problem is that the south portion acts like a normal traffic circle, while the north portion (118 Ave) acts like a through-street, and those two concepts just don't mix.

Alternatively, we get rid of trees that don't pay property taxes, and make it a parking lot. You park your car, and then cannot cross the stroads on foot.

Like a vehicular Hotel California.

On the topic of roundabouts, I think the city should go all-in on installing these along 111 avenue. Add roundabouts at 124th Street, Groat Road, 142 st, 149 st and 156 st! Add another at Mayfield road & 107 Ave for good measure!

Would mayhem ensue?
